Maritime

In maritime we're involved in a diverse range of projects that focus on areas such as cruise liner facilities, bulk cargo ports, ro-ro terminals and tanker berths. The workload is hugely varied and provides excellent opportunities to gain experience in a whole host of disciplines including port planning, numerical modelling and structural and geotechnical engineering.
Graduate engineers participate in projects from their earliest stages through to construction. You can expect to work on a number of projects, carrying out anything from tender preparation and detailed design to feasibility studies and report writing, while there is ample opportunity to use and employ various design software packages and codes.
We have a diverse list of clients which includes government agencies, oil companies and port operators in the UK and Europe and further afield in the Caribbean, the Middle East, Asia and Africa. This provides an ideal opportunity for you to gain experience in designing for different climates and conditions, while allowing you to become familiar with overseas design standards and working practises.
In less than a year with Mott MacDonald I've carried out detailed designs using various materials, overseen and managed the creation of drawings, contributed to reports, worked alongside engineers from other divisions and communicated with the client and suppliers on a large scale project based in Malaysia. As a result I have gained experience in using various design codes from home and abroad, dealt with issues not common to the UK such as seismicity, and learnt a great deal about the profession in a short space of time.
