York

Jermaine Low
I’ve joined the Mott MacDonald Transmission & Distribution Division York office in 2006 as a graduate engineer. The office is located at the north-east corner of Ousegate Bridge in the city centre. It is just 10 minutes walk from the York rail station. The office is in a modern four storey building and it is occupied by employees from three divisions: Railway, Management and Power. The division I work for (Power) is on the 4th floor of the building and my desk is just by the window, giving me access to the beautiful views of the city of York. My colleagues are lovely and friendly. They helped me a lot in settling down when I first moved to York and are still assisting me in my career development.

York Sport & Social club, funded by Mott MacDonald and run by employees in the York office, is there to enchant the employees’ social life after work. Badminton, football and squash sessions are run once a week by the Sport & Social Club. On top of that, exciting events and trips such as pigeon shooting, gliding lesson, dragon boat race, Christmas dinner party, etc. have been organized and are well-responded to, and have become common annual events.

York is a historic well-preserved city. It was founded in AD 71 and has a rich Roman and Viking history. Therefore, the city attracts great deal of tourism and it will be full with tourists during summer and school holidays. It is a completely different experience to live in a historic and touristy city. You may hear the music playing from different instruments by public artists while walking in the city. Occasionally, there are some events organized by the York City Council to attract tourists. They include International/Continental Market and Food and Drink Festival.

For those who enjoy a decent and peaceful life like me, York is definitely a good place to live.
